Outreach
Services
The Nashua Public Library's outreach services van brings books
and other
library materials to the homebound, persons with disabilities, residents
of elderly
housing, and others in the community who have difficulty visiting the library
on their own.
Outreach Services Frequently Asked Questions
Who is eligible for the service?
The Outreach Service delivers within the City of Nashua only. Outreach is available to those who are:
• confined to their homes for three months or more
• unable to use the library because of illness, physical disability, or
age
• residents in nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and senior citizen
residences
• teachers at day care centers, family day care centers, Head Start programs,
or special at-risk programs
Do I need a library card to use the service?
Yes. Anyone who lives or works in Nashua is eligible for a library card. Please
visit the Circulation Policies page for
requirements for obtaining a card.
What materials can you deliver?
We can bring you hardcover books, paperbacks, large-print books, audiobooks,
magazines, and music CDs. A small collection of VHS videos and DVDs, geared
to adults, is also available for outreach customers. For children, we also
offer picture books,
board books, puppets, and music tapes.
How long can I keep the materials?
You can keep your materials for three weeks, until our next visit. If the van
misses a delivery date, or if your usual date falls on a holiday, your materials
will be automatically renewed.
How will you know what materials I want?
You can request items by contacting the outreach services office at the library
at 589-4627 or by sending us email at Karen Egle-Gaber.
Or you can request them by using our online catalog at www.nashualibrary.org.
In addition, when you sign up for the service, we will have you fill
out an interest profile. On this form, you will tell us what type of
books you enjoy— for
example, biographies, history, romance novels, literary fiction, picture
books, and so forth. You can let us know if you want to receive large-print
books,
hardcovers, paperbacks, books on tape, music CDs, VHS videos, DVDs, and so
forth.
Then we will
select materials from the library that fit your interests and deliver them
to you as well.
What if I can’t get to the door?
If you are unable to answer the door when we visit, we can
arrange to leave your materials in a safe spot that you designate
at your home. You can leave
your materials to be returned in the same spot.
Does the service operate on holidays or in bad weather?
The van will not operate on holidays if the library is closed.
In addition, it will not operate when driving is hazardous
due to inclement weather. Don’t
worry, your items will automatically renew.
