Title:
Babysitting Course


Brief Description:

Following the 4-H Safe Sitter curriculum,  youth ages 10 and up learn basic babysitting and first aid skills.


Materials Needed:

Copies of 4-H handouts

Pencil and paper for each participant

Children’s toys, books, catalogs with pictures of toys


Cost:
Copying of Handouts, refreshments, folders & pencils. CHEAP

Program Procedure:

Have pre-registration

4-two hour sessions

volunteers to help teach sessions a must.

Teach curriculum from 4-H handouts


Outside Presenter Contact Information:

Can contact local 4-H representative to volunteer to teach course

(local hospitals and Red Cross often have these courses and could be contacted to come to teach course – these usually have fees involved)


Related Materials For Display\Resource List For Teens:

Books on babysitting, first aid, child development, games, songs and activities for children.  Also books on getting your first job to market services.


Additional Comments:

Limit enrollment if necessary to 20 (15 better)

Appeals to boys and girls

Can be difficult to coordinate volunteers from Fire, Police, and EMT depts. On the same night so ask early!

After the course the babysitter graduates PARENTS’ names and phone numbers are added to a list as a resource for parents looking for sitters. Copies are kept at Circ. And in the parenting area of the Children’s Dept.
